Imbuing Patriotism
Sanjay Budhia
Managing Director, Patton Group
Even as a progressive-minded parent, I insisted that we converse in Hindi with our daughter, Preeyam. We encouraged her to participate in cultural programmes at school, especially on 15 August and 26 January.
Preeyam chose to pursue her studies at the University of Nottingham, before she began working in London. While abroad, she was actively involved with the City Hindus Network, a voluntary not-for-profit organisation that promotes personal development and charity among Hindu professionals. On our visits, she would regale us with tales of how Indians in London celebrate Holi and Eid.
For her fellow citizens, Preeyam, along with her mother, has started AddLife Caring Minds, a mental wellness facility, in Kolkata.

Both my son, Saket, and daughter, Shivani, have pursued their education abroad.
I believe that patriotism is performing well in one’s field of expertise and providing employment to as many as possible. This is what my children were taught too. They have also seen our designer jewellery brand, Art Karat, emphasising Indian designs and craftsmanship through its operations across UK, Middle East and USA, which has taught them to promote India on a global platform.
Many a time, those going abroad do not want to return, but I feel an overwhelming sense of pride in saying that my children are so in love with their homeland that they wanted to come back as soon as possible.
