From Corporate To Wellness Start-up: This Entrepreneur is Reviving a 65-Year-Old Family Tradition
Mansi Biyani’s early years of childhood were surrounded by Ayurvedic scriptures, herbs and stories shared by her grandfather about Ayurveda and his business ventures. From a tender age, she developed an interest in the ancient science of Ayurveda and would accompany her grandfather on his field trips for selling Ayurvedic formulations.
Inspiration From Grandfather
Mansi says, “My grandfather was a pioneer in the field of Ayurveda. He conducted a successful Ayurvedic business for 40 years, one that stood the test of time, surviving economic downturns, changing trends and technological advances for 40 years. His dedication to help others got passed down through generations and his commitment to providing holistic healing is something that I strive to continue till date. I am proud to be part of this family legacy and hope to keep it alive by bringing ayurvedic supplements into modern times.”
Growing up, Mansi wanted to be an architect and had plans of designing and building beautiful structures that would stand the test of time. She went to Scotland to study Project Management from Heriot Watt University and started her career as a Project Manager in the U.K. However, destiny had other plans for her. She followed her calling and made the leap from project manager to entrepreneur.

Establishing MBDH Wellness
The Biyanis believe that health is a prerequisite to become the best version of yourself and achieve your dreams. In July 2021, Mansi quit her job and followed her grandfather’s vision by founding a D2C Ayurveda start-up MBDH Wellness with a bootstrapped capital. She says, “When I was in the UK, I saw a lot of plant-based start-ups growing in the West. With that, my interest in Ayurveda increased, as the Indian start-up ecosystem was growing too. I was fortunate to take forward my grandfather’s legacy in the Indian D2C ecosystem and build a global brand. The experiences from my grandfather’s business journey helped me gain a better understanding of business.”
Mansi was eventually joined by her brother Gaurav Biyani. “I remember the first time I pitched this idea of launching this start-up, my brother Gaurav Biyani (her co-founder) was overjoyed with the idea. He too quit his job in the UK and joined me in the venture,” adds Mansi. Backed by clinical trials and formulations for modern India backed by 65 years of legacy, the siblings want to make MBDH Wellness as India’s first Ayurvedic brand.
The Relevance of MBDH Wellness
Building long-term relationships with customers is an important factor for businesses to remain relevant in the market, stand out from its competitors and make attract potential customers. It is the key to gaining customer loyalty, increasing sales and improving customer service. By understanding the needs of customers, businesses can create products or services that meet those needs and build trust with them. This enables them to develop better marketing strategies and bring in more customers in the long run.
“At MBDH Wellness, we understand that the modern-day lifestyle can take a toll on your health. Hence, we are committed to bringing modern Ayurveda into the future and making it relevant for millennials. We are designing a platform where every customer will be recommended an individualised diet plan designed by AI. This diet plan will be tailored according to their individual needs and preferences so they can optimise their health. Our goal is to help people live healthier lives and make sure they have access to the right kind of nutrition advice and guidance,” explains Mansi.
Within two years, MBDH Wellness has already made strides in the international market and is now looking to invest in educating its audience about wellness, healthcare and the environment. The company is soon launching MBDH Wellness Foundation, a non-profit entity to focus on healthcare, environmental sustainability and other related topics. The foundation will work towards creating awareness all over the world by providing educational resources, organising seminars and workshops and conducting research.
Additionally, it will provide financial aid to those who are unable to access these resources due to financial constraints. This initiative will help them reach their goal of making a positive impact on global health and wellness.
Struggles & Challenges
The increased demand for Ayurvedic medicines has led to a dramatic decrease in the availability of raw materials, thereby leading to a need for more efficient procurement strategies. “To ensure that the right quantity of raw materials is available for production, we are looking at different ways to improve the procurement process. This includes exploring different sources of supply and new methods and technologies to get the raw materials in a timely manner. By doing this, we can ensure that Ayurveda medicines remain available and effective for years to come,” she says.
With the current lack of information regarding the availability of medicinal plants in different parts of the country, people seeking these plants may be misled. This raises a concern for those who are looking to procure raw materials for their medicinal needs. To address this issue, it is important to understand the various methods that can be used to obtain these raw materials. “Our biggest challenge is to ensure quality raw materials for our formulations. Therefore, it is vital that we procure these raw materials from reliable sources only so that there is no lacuna in quality and fundamental methods of Ayurveda farming.”

Integrating Allopathy and Ayurveda
Integrating and the systems of Allopathy and Ayurveda is getting increasingly popular in the medical field. However, promoting and integrating the two sciences for research and clinical use is a major challenge in India. Both systems have their own advantages, but they can be used together to provide a holistic approach to healthcare. While Allopathy is based on scientific evidence and focuses on relieving symptoms rather than curing the underlying cause, Ayurveda takes a holistic approach to health and aims at restoring balance in the body with natural herbs and supplements. “The integration of these two systems provides an effective solution for illnesses without having to resort to harsh drugs or invasive treatments. By combining the best of both worlds, we can create a more complete healthcare system that caters to everyone’s needs,” they add.
“We believe that this ancient science has the potential to revolutionise modern healthcare and improve the lives of millions. With this vision in mind, we want to build our brand and make a positive impact in India’s Ayush sector. Our focus is to promote the use of natural remedies, empower local communities, and create an environment where everyone can access quality healthcare. We are committed to providing safe and effective solutions that are rooted in Ayurvedic principles and traditions,” they say.
“We aim to become India’s 1st Ayurvedic brand that is backed by clinical trials, artificial intelligence and formulations that are fit for modern India backed by 60 years of legacy” – Mansi.

MBDH Wellness has establish itself on Flipkart, Amazon, and other ecommerce platforms. “It has been an exciting and challenging journey as we have seen our business grow. We are now looking forward to the future and planning our next steps to ensure that we continue to grow and succeed. Our future plans include expanding into new markets, diversifying our product lines, launching new marketing campaigns, and investing in technology to improve customer experience,” says Mansi.
She adds, “If I could go back in time and give myself one piece of advice, it would be to not be afraid to try new things, push past my comfort zone and love yourself. Looking back at my life, I realise that self-love is important. Knowing that you are enough is the best way to start any journey in life.”
